lifeI liked half of this book.

This is two stories in one. Every other chapter concerns the travels of Dr. John Dee and his assistant Edward Kelley in the 1500’s and their research into the elixir of life. The other chapters tell the present day story of a group of women who are trying to save people who might die (or might not).

I started reading this weeks ago and got stalled. I read several other books and came back and read a chapter and got stalled again. Finally I realized that I couldn’t care less about Dr. Dee and his travels. I stopped reading those chapters, only read the others, and enjoyed the rest of the book.

I’m sure I missed some important plot points, but my feeling is that Aveyard needs better advice from her editor.
